2 Postdoctoral positions in additive manufacturing
The main competencies at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science are found in the areas of: Human-Technology Interaction | Form and Function | Modeling and Simulation | Product Development | Material | Production and in the interaction between these areas. The research develops the industrial process, from need to finished product while creating added value. To combine skills throughout the whole chain distinguishes the department both nationally and internationally. Here we gather internationally prominent researchers, in dynamic and outstanding research environments, as well as in national and international research networks.
Information about the research
The Division of Materials and Manufacture is part of the Department of Industrial and Materials Science. The division addresses research questions related to additive manufacturing, powder technology, surface engineering, 2D-materials like graphene, surface coatings, nanomaterials, metal cutting and grinding. The division is the host for the national competence centre CAM2 (Centre for Additive Manufacturing http://www.chalmers.se/en/centres/cam2/Pages/default.aspx).
Connected to this centre, a number of prioritized research areas are launched and developed. Among the basic research areas, the CAM2 centre also takes the next step in development of new materials for additive manufacturing (AM) and design for AM. Today, the AM activities at the division already involves among the largest groups in AM across Europe with senior researchers, post-docs, PhD students, and we now are seeking a number of new co-workers as follows:
2-3 post-docs with interest in additive manufacturing (powder bed fusion) and adequate background to be able to address in particular pre-processing and design for AM, process development and materials characterisation, with adequate background in the AM technology, materials technology and process development.
You will be working with the process and materials development of laser powder bed fusion with particular emphasis on design for AM.
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
PhD in materials science, material mechanics and/or production engineering, the degree should generally not be older than three years. Priority will be given to candidates with relevant background in additive manufacturing.
Skills in CAD, powder-bed fusion technology, materials characterisation, microscopy, etc., are considered as merits. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching and project management, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
